For Policy Makers: What Can be Done for Aviation Graduates of Pakistan?

This article answers the following:

1. What is the scope of the field of aviation?
2. What opportunities can be created for aviation graduates in Pakistan?
3. How can our graduates compete with international markets?

1. What is the Scope of this Field?

Following job prospects for an aviation graduate are available in local and international markets.

  • Jobs in airline operations at the airport (e.g., passenger handling, baggage handling and cargo handling, aircraft maintenance) and behind the scene (e.g., crew planning, customer care and safety) are good opportunities for these graduates.
  • Ground handling companies managing airport operations of various local and international airlines is a good option for a fresh graduate to get industry experience. Based on the capacity of the employee, these companies also facilitate him/her to get license for load controlling.
  • Other than this, if they obtain a license, they may get into flight operations and maintenance.
  • Moreover, after passing a designated NTS exam, they may get into air traffic controlling.
  • Travel and tourism related companies are another sector where these graduates may be placed.
  • Foreign airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia are some of the international employers for fresh graduates of aviation related degree programs.
  • The scope of this field is no doubt narrow. It is challenging too. So, the student should only join this field if he/she has passion, determination and is consistent towards his/her career in aviation industry.

2. What opportunities can be created for aviation graduates in Pakistan?

We need a strong bridge between aviation industry and academia in the matters of employment and research.

  • In this regard, airlines, ground handling companies and Airport Security Force (ASF) should acknowledge these graduates by putting the degree title such as BS Aviation Management (BS AM) as one of the qualifications for their entry level jobs. As a precedent, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) is already doing it.
  • Industry can fund social research and applied projects of students and offer jobs for those students whose projects offer best solutions for industry problems.
  • A rather ambitious approach can be to partially follow the model of armed forces. For obvious reasons, the employment rate of their graduates is 100 percent. Likewise, Higher Education Commission (HEC) can suggest or enforce universities to set up a related business enterprise before starting a new degree program to incorporate at least 40 percent of their graduates in these companies. This approach favors the self-sustainability and as a precedent, medical colleges are already doing it (unintentionally) by preferring their own graduates for a house job or a full-time job.

3. How can our graduates compete with international markets?

To compete in international market, we need to work on two fronts:

  • First, we need to enhance the quality of education of aviation related degree programs according to international standards to earn and sustain trust from the international employers. For this purpose, getting international accreditations for our aviation related degree programs can be one solution. In this regard, Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) under Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) for management and technical degree programs, PEC under Washington Accord for engineering related programs and National Technology Council (NTC) under Sydney Accord can prove to be good options. Few of the universities are already working for these accreditations.
  • Secondly, government initiative for a bilateral agreement with major airlines (e.g., Emirates, Qatar Airways, Saudi Airlines) and their subsidiary companies (e.g., Emirates Engineering, DNATA and Qatar Airport Services) in gulf region can bring benefit for aviation graduates. Universities that are offering aviation related degree programs can be directed by HEC to incorporate the modern software tools that these companies used. But these tools are expensive and universities may need to collaborate with these companies to get access to these software packages. HEC or the government may facilitate this collaboration.

The Coalition Government of PDM has Admitted that People of Pakistan have Stood up Against Them.

Here is Why!

Check your vote, as it may have been transferred to a distant location which may be inconvenient to you. It is done without taking your consent and without informing you. Election Commission under “Noon-government” is facilitating a dirty political game. All of this because the current government is afraid of not only loosing the upcoming election but vanishing from the political horizon of this country.

Consider a resident of a metropolitan city going out on the election day to cast his vote and spending an hour or so standing in a long queue to wait for his turn only to find out that his vote is not registered there. He will then waste another hour to track the location where his vote was transferred, will gather all the courage to travel to the voting center which is 25 to 30 KM away and reach there only to find out that the voting time is over.

Press Release - Election Commission of Pakistan:

According to the recent press release by Election Commission of Pakistan, (Click Here to See the Link) people of Pakistan have been given time till Jun 19, 2022 to register their vote, change record or transfer the vote. And many of us don’t even have a slightest idea that we have been scammed.

Following are now needed on urgent basis:

  1. Check the location of your vote: Send your CNIC without Hyphen (-) and spaces on your mobile and send it to 8300.
  2. Go to this link to download required forms to correct your record (if required): https://ecp.gov.pk/frmGenericPage.aspx?PageID=3265
  3. Go to this link to check centers to submit forms for the transfer of vote and change in record: https://www.ecp.gov.pk/frmGenericPage.aspx?PageID=3264
  4. Or go to this direct link for one pager list of centers to submit formshttps://www.ecp.gov.pk/listofdisplaycenters.jpg

Ukraine: A Latest Powerplay Between Capitalists and Communists

The Russian - Ukraine war is in fact the long due conflict between Communist in the form of Russia and Western Capitalists in the form of expanding NATO in Europe.

It dated back to the end of World War II when Soviet Union joined Allied Block (USA, Britain and France)  against Germany. After the defeat of Germans, Allied countries divided Germany (as spoils of war) between East and West through Berlin Wall which then marked the beginning of Cold War between USSR and USA.

At the end of Cold War, USSR was dissolved into fifteen independent counties that included Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine which has now become the latest war zone in Europe.

After World War II, countries in Western Europe along with United States of America formed an alliance in the form of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in 1949 to protect each other against any future offensive from the East.

The Cold war was ended in 1990, but NATO was still expanding its alliances in Europe. In 1999, only nine years after the fall of Soviet Union, three of the former Soviet countries joined NATO while in 2014, seven more European countries became the part of this treaty hence leaving only Belarus, Georgia and Ukraine between NATO and Russia.

Although Ukraine became the partner of NATO (not the member) in 1994 but the current escalation of the tension in the region started in 2013 when Ukraine reached the agreement to be the part of European Union. There came the twist. When it came to signing this agreement, President Viktor Yanukovych backed off in favor of the closer ties with Russia. The Ukraine faced riots against this decision and President Yanukovych had to flee the country.

Then, the new president signed the agreement of association with European Union in 2014. For President Putin, This meant the loss of political influence of Russian in Ukraine. At that point, Putin did not directly invade Ukraine, but took the benefit of unrest and changing regime in Ukraine. In early 2014, Putin sent Russian military forces in Crimea - a Ukrainian peninsula in the South, and took over the charge (a smart military move on his part). Although, Crimea had been the part of Ukraine since 1950s yet most of the population speaks Russian and even before this attack a referendum was made in Crimea in which the people voted to be the part of Russia.

It is worth mentioning here that the result of this referendum was called "illegal" and "against the Ukrainian Constitution" by the US President, Barak Obama. Hence once again proving the fact that this war is not between two countries, it is a conflict between two ideologies i.e., Capitalism and Communism.

Another smart military move by the Russian President was to take benefit of the ethnic and communist separatists movements in Donbass region which made of Donetsk and Luhansk.

To suppress these anti-separatists campaigns and to support capitalists ideology, Ukrainian government  had been receiving continuous support from the West. As Russian considers this region as its own so this Western support and NATO expansion towards the East provoked Russians to take offensive measures by actually invading Ukraine in Feb 2022 regardless of several warnings of economic sanctions from US and other powerful counties.

The outcome of this conflict is yet to be decided. Lets hope for the containment of this conflict as early as possible without the intervention of foreign conspiracies. If, God Forbid, this escalates, the world has not learnt any lesson from the two World Wars; foreign intrusions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Kashmir and Vietnam; and the gulf war as these conflicts collectively took the lives of billions and torn apart the future of many countries.
